Our Story PACE

Our Story PACE

Progressive Action for Community Empowerment (PACE) emerges from desire to address personal and societal needs within the Community. Poverty, insufficient food, access to empowerment opportunities, health issues and social challenges are ongoing factors that led to establishment of PACE. As a brain child of George and Charles, its initiation emerges from the shared vision for beneficial change. Collective participation of friends, colleagues and strategic partners led to the idea initiation and implementation.

Specific Needs

Poverty, unemployment, insufficient use of resources and lack of empowerment opportunities continue to plague the youth today. With the problematic situation we face, it is important to use our skills and minimal resources we have to create sustainable solutions. The decision to take comprehensive action relies on the willingness to transform the problems we have for long standing positive outcomes.

Community Driven Factors

We recognize that as youth we face economic and social challenges that impede on our progress. From financial stress to inadequate food source, we need to empower each other. Involvement of the community requires education, training programs and communication about the available opportunities we have for transformation.

Social Change

Our aim is to empower each other as we transform our lives while addressing particular problems in the society that require collective action. By using available resources, skills, training and opportunities we can foster social and economic advancement.

Personal Stories

Charles’s Story

“I knew about organizations such as Majeshi, Green Warriors engaging in community empowerment, agriculture and social change. Knowing George for a long period, the exposure to “Climate Action Team” led to interest on the need to form our CBO. Further interaction with George after campus led to idea formulation and how PACE can be unique from CAT to promote employment, access to opportunities and community growth.

George’s Story

“Back in 2012, I was part of the climate action team that led to appreciation of the role that CBOs play in transforming the society. Moreover, the exposure to leadership and connectedness training course at Ruiru was an enabling experience that led to interacting with TOP (Technology of Peace) and learning about TOP principles and the resource oriented development approach. Conversations about existing problems we face and viable solutions driven by available resources was an engaging and informing exposure. I can say that TOP, engagement with other CBOS and personal interest into the need for community development were influential towards the creation

of the CBO”
